Red pumpkin beetle (Aulocophora fovicollis, Chrysomelidae, Coleoptera)
Damaging stage: grub and Adult
Damaging symptoms: Grub ( root damage), adult (leaf hole).
Identification
- Egg: laying egg inside the moist soil near root zone, yellowish pink
- Grub: dirty white(freshly hatch) ,creamy to yellow (full grown)
- Pupa: pupation in soil
- Adult: yellowish red brown elytra, black abdomen.
Life cycle:
Egg—6-7 days–> Larva –13-15 days–> Pupa –7-17 days–> Adult
Management:
- Collect and destroy.
- Early sowing,flodding.
- Dusting of ash mioxed with kerosene oil applied of parthenium
- Neem seed kernel
- Yellow sticky trap.
- Pupal parasitoid : Opius fletcheri, O. compensans
- Carbaryl @ 2g/l., malathian @ 2ml/l of water.
