Sugarcane root borer (Polycha/Emmalocera depressella, Pyralidae, Lepidioptera)

Damaging symptoms: dead hear, don’t offensive smell, larva attack generally side tiller than main or mature side shoot.

Root Borer (Emmalocera depressella) Sugarcane Insect -

Identification:

  • Egg: single on upper and lower surface of
  • Larva: creamy white with yellowish head
  • Pupa: inside root,soil
  • Adult: brown, 2 black spot on forewings.

 

Management:

  • Egg parasitoid: Trichogramma chilonis
  • Larval parasitoid: chelonus spp, stenbraccon seesae
  • Pupal parasitoid: ichneumonidae
  • Pheromone trap
  • Chloropyrifos 20EC ,carbofuran (1.5 kg/ha)
  • Neem seed kernel extract 10% extract.
