Sugarcane root borer (Polycha/Emmalocera depressella, Pyralidae, Lepidioptera)
Damaging stage: Larva
Damaging symptoms: dead hear, don’t offensive smell, larva attack generally side tiller than main or mature side shoot.
Identification:
- Egg: single on upper and lower surface of
- Larva: creamy white with yellowish head
- Pupa: inside root,soil
- Adult: brown, 2 black spot on forewings.
Management:
- Egg parasitoid: Trichogramma chilonis
- Larval parasitoid: chelonus spp, stenbraccon seesae
- Pupal parasitoid: ichneumonidae
- Pheromone trap
- Chloropyrifos 20EC ,carbofuran (1.5 kg/ha)
- Neem seed kernel extract 10% extract.
