Planting of Banana

a) Planting time:

  • Planting can be done throughout the year except in severe winter and heavy rains when the soil is wet/soggy.
  • The best time of planting in Nepal is Asoj/kartik in terai, falgun/chaitra in low hills (except mangsir, paush, magh).
  • Usually, it takes 1.5-2 yrs from planting to fruiting.

b) Planting Spacing:

  • 2- 2.5 × 2 – 2.5m (tall types), 1.8×1.8m (dwarf type).
  • If ratoon crops is taken higher spacing is required to maintain compared to single year crop.

c) Pit digging, Fit filling and Planting:

  • Healthy, vigorous suckers are selected for planting in a pit dug 60×60×60cm.
  • The pit soil is mixed with well decomposed FYM/Compost.
  • A single sucker is planted in the center of the pit with 25-30cm deep.
