Importance

  • Sunflower protein (high digestibility- 90%) has higher level of essential amino acids particularly, lysine and methionine.
  • Cake: used as feed for ruminants, swine, poultry due to high protein content (60%), CF, oil (8-10%), minerals, carbohydrates etc.
  • Ash contains 4% phosphoric acid and up to 36% K2O.
  • Sunflower field as a best site for honey production.

 

 

Origin and Distribution

  • originated in the south-west US-Mexico area.
  • World leading countries: China, USA, Russia, Spain, Argentina, France, Canada, Hungary, India, Australia, South Africa etc.
  • In Nepal, most of the cultivation is confined in Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dang, Rupandehi and Chitwan.
