About Lesson
Absicissic Acid (ABA)
- Abscisic acid, is involved in many developmental plant processes, including leaf abscission, responding to environmental stress
- Abscisic acid is produced in the roots of the plant as well as the terminal buds at the top of the plant
- Carns and Addicott extracted two substances Abscisin I from old cotton balls and Abscisin II from young cotton ball, which accelerates abscission of leaves
- These substances were known to be as Abscissic acid
Â
Role of ABA
- Induces bud dormancy
- Promotes senescence
- Accelerates leaf abscission in cotton plant
- Induces flowering during long days in certain short day plants – ineffective in short day plants
- Counteracts GA
