Limits of Grafting and Budding
- These are only possible in dicot plants
- Grafting in to different genus in the same family is possible e.g Trifoliate orange and Mosabi (Poncirus and citrus) or Khirni and Sapota ( nonilifora and Acharus )
- Grafting in two different species within the same genus is possible e.g Rangpur lime and santra ( Citrus lemon X Citrus reticulta ).
- Grafting in two different families is generally impossible. For successful union, cambium tissue of both stock and scion should be in close contact and it is usually carried out during the sap flowing condition of both. Cover the operated portion immediately with grafting wax
