Ornamental plants

  • These plants are grown for aesthetic value

 

a. Flowers and foliage plants :-

  • These crops are grown for their attractive flowers and foliage
  • On the basis of life span they are classified as:

 

I. Annuals: Zinnia, marigold, snapdragon, Calendula etc

II. Biennials: Holly hock

III. Perennials: Rose, Dahlia, Chrysanthemum

 

b. Nursery plants

  • They are generally woody and perennials and most often raised for landscaping purpose
  • They can be classified as:

 

I. Lawn or turf grass: Bermuda grass, blue grass

II. Ground covers:

  • They are used to cover ground for landscaping purposes
  • Example: Periwinkle

 

III. Vines

  • They are mostly perennials
  • Example: Grapes, Bouganvellia

 

IV. Shrubs and Trees

  • Poinsettia, Hibiscus: Shrubs
  • Rhododendron, Goldmohor, Pagoda: Trees
