About Lesson
Pollination
- Pollination is the transfer of pollen grains (male gamete) from the anther to the stigma of the flower
- If the pollen deposited is from the anther of the recipient flower or from another flower on the same plant, it is called self pollination
- Nut trees are mostly self pollinated
- Some times pollen from different sources is transferred to a flower, it is called cross pollination
- Winds and insects are the agent of cross pollination
- Flowers that are specially adapted to pollination by wasps, bees and flies have showy and brightly colored petals (blue or yellow color)
- Flower that are adapted to pollination by moth and butterflies are white and pale color so they are visible to nocturnal moth
