About Lesson
Scion Attached Methods:
- These are the methods of grafting where in the scion is kept attached to the mother plant till the graft union takes place and then the graft is separated in stage taking cuts on scion below the graft union and on root stock above the graft union. This principle is followed in following methods:
Â
i) Simple approach or inarching
This method is practise in mango, jackfruit, sapota, loquat and custard apple
- In this method the root stock is grown in pot or container, and the root stock is brought close to the scion
- The root stock and scion shoots of pencil thickness are selected
- Shallow cut of 2.5 cm to 4 cm length is prepared on scion
- Similar matching cut is also given on root stock
- Both root stock and scion are brought close to each other and wrapped using polythene tape
- When union take place the upper portion of root stock is cut and the scion shoot is detached from mother plant
- The united portion is kept in nursery and cared till next planting
