Indigenous breed
a) Sakini
- Egg production is 70-80/year.
- Average weight is 1.5-2 kg.
- Hardy and dual-purpose breed.
- They have sickle shaped feather in their tail region.
- They are highly resistant to diseases.
b) Ghatee khuile
- Hardy and dual-purpose breed.
- Have few feathers in neck.
- Egg production is 60-80/year.
- Male is 1.6 kg and female is 1.3 kg.
c) Dumse (Puwankh ulte)
- Hardy and dual-purpose breed.
- Has ruffled feathers.
- Male is 1 kg and female are 0.9 kg.
Exotic breed
- American breed
a) New hempshire
- American breed, brown in color.
- Male is 3.8 kg and female is 2.9 kg.
- Egg production is 200 eggs/year.
b) Rhode Island Reds
- long rectangular body which is also broad and deep.
- The back is flat and breast is carried with forward characteristics which make it a good meat producing birds.
c) Plymouth Rock
- long body, fairly broad prominent breast.
- Birds have single comb.
- They are excellent flesh and the hens are good layers.
- English breed
a) Australop
- Australian breed and is black is color.
- Male is 3.8 kg and female is 2.9 kg.
- Egg production is 200 eggs/year.
b) Sussex
- has long bodies which are broad at shoulder with good depth from front to ears.
- The birds have brown colored shanks, beaks and toes.
- They have single comb.
- Birds are primarily of meat type but good laying strains have been developed.
- Mediterranean Breeds
a) Leghorn
- White leg horn has excellent feed efficiency.
- The eggs are white in color.
- All the varieties of this breed have yellow beak, skin, shank and toe.
- They are single comb.
b) Minoro
- long body, large sized comb and wattle.
- Large white ear lobes, long strong bodies, legs set squarely under the powerful looking body.
- The beak, shanks and toes are black.
- They are excellent producer of large white eggs.
- The egg shell is chalked white in color.
