Status of Poultry enterprise in Nepal

  • Poultry can be referred as domesticated fowl commonly reared for the purpose of meat.
  • Poultry farming is growing at a rate of 15% per annum involving over 1,20,000 farms.
  • of broiler = 21,000 , no. of layer farm = 1,400 and mo. of hatcheries = 178.
  • Meat production is 8,20,000 kg daily and egg production is 22,00,000 eggs daily. of feed industries is 100 and daily production of poultry feed is 3000 mt.
  • Contribution to national GDP is 3.5%.
  • Total investment in this sector is 80 billion rupees.
  • Hen production decline after 12 months. So, slaughter is necessary.

 

Scope of poultry production in Nepal

  • Serve as source of quality animal protein as well as income by selling the surplus eggs and birds.
  • Requires little capital for establishment.
  • Employment opportunities to women and rural people.
