Status of Poultry enterprise in Nepal
- Poultry can be referred as domesticated fowl commonly reared for the purpose of meat.
- Poultry farming is growing at a rate of 15% per annum involving over 1,20,000 farms.
- of broiler = 21,000 , no. of layer farm = 1,400 and mo. of hatcheries = 178.
- Meat production is 8,20,000 kg daily and egg production is 22,00,000 eggs daily. of feed industries is 100 and daily production of poultry feed is 3000 mt.
- Contribution to national GDP is 3.5%.
- Total investment in this sector is 80 billion rupees.
- Hen production decline after 12 months. So, slaughter is necessary.
Scope of poultry production in Nepal
- Serve as source of quality animal protein as well as income by selling the surplus eggs and birds.
- Requires little capital for establishment.
- Employment opportunities to women and rural people.
