Mediterranean flour moth (Ephestia kuchniella)

a. Biology

  • Adult moths are small, slender, shiny pale grey moths, about ½ inch in length with wingspan of ¾ to 1 inch.
  • Forewings are pale pinkish gray with several dark spots.
  • Larva are small white or pinkish colored larvae, with dark head and small black spots all over the body.
  • Pupae are reddish brown in color.

 

b. Nature of damage:

  • Damage is caused entirely by the larvae, by feeding on the food source, and spinning silken webs.
