Introduction

Plagiarism means using someone’s ideas, words, phrases, etc. without properly citing the sources or giving credit to original source or person. It sometimes involves stealing someone’s work, but often it happens accidentally, through carelessness or forgetfulness.

Plagiarism prevents you from establishing your own ideas and opinions on a topic. You can’t expect to cheat and plagiarize forever because you’ll get caught the consequences will be bad.

Follow these four steps to ensure your paper is free from plagiarism:

a) Keep track of the sources you consult in your research.

b) Paraphrase or quote from your sources (and add your own ideas).

c) Credit the original author in an in-text citation and reference list.

d) Use a plagiarism checker before you submit.
