Leadership

  • The ability to influence a group toward the achievement of goals
  • Process of leading a group and influencing that group to achieve its goals.
  • Influencing the attitudes of action of one or more persons leading towards the achievement of some purpose or goal.
  • Usually based on the previous accomplishment in the eye of group or followers.

 

Three aspects of leadership

  1. Leadership refers to the process not to a person. The individual who possesses the power, position and authority may or may not to be a formal leader
  2. Degree of legitimacy, the rest of the group member must consent to the leaders influence
  3. Leadership is defined in terms of goal attainment, if leader is unable to move the group towards desired goal, he or she is not utilizing leadership
