About Lesson

Ethylene

  • The only ripening hormone.
  • Highly useful in inducing fruit ripening
  • Auxins increase ethylene level in plants and auxin actions are attributed through ethylene such as increased percentage of female flowers, apical bud dominance and leaf epinasty

Ā

Physiological effects of ethylene

  • Stimulation of ripening of fleshy fruits
  • Abscission of leaves
  • Inhibition of stem elongation
  • Stimulation of radial swelling of stems
  • Inhibition of root growth
  • Stimulation of flowering
  • Stimulation of leaf epinasty
