Maintaining high fertility level in a herd
a) Avoid sudden change in diet plan specially at the time of calving.
b) Avoid sudden changes in temperature as it changes the hormonal level affecting the reproductive cycle of the animal. Planning the shedding condition, providing clean fresh water and ventilation can drop the excessive temperature fluctuation.
c) Estimate the rate at which conception takes place.
d) Separating the bull with less sperm count, short penis, poor or heavy weight, hormonal disbalance, aged bull increases the chances of conception rate.
e) Female should be separated based on good ovulation, mothering capacity, conception rate, etc.
f) Breeding cattle at first heat after 50 days of calving increases the chances of conception.
g) Record keeping of breeding, dates of heat, no. of services ensure good reproductive performance.
h) Provide well balanced and adequate ration.
i) Keep in mind the sanitation and hygiene of both barn and animal as it affects the reproduction and performance of herd.
j) Maintain good facility of AI, heat period tracking, using good semen, etc. to ensure the herd performance is at its peak.
