  • Horizontal transfer occurs when technologies are moved from one area to another.
  • Vertical transfer occurs when technologies are moved from applied research centers to research and development departments.
  • At present transfer of technology (TOT) is primarily horizontal.

Three function of technology development process and dissemination

  1. In order to accepted and integrated in to the social system technology must be developed keeping in view farmers existing practice, resources, environment and preference.

  3. Communication of technology alone is not sufficient. Infrastructure, support service, policy, marketing, inputs, training must be assured for effective utilization

System involved in transfer of agriculture technology

  • Technology generating system
  • Technology dissemination system
  • Technology utilization system

Why transfer of technology (ToT)?

  • There is a wide gap between the technology generation, dissemination and utilization system
  • Appropriate technology not reaching to the utilization system
  • Technology utilization system is not keen in its utilization
  • There is a need to provide appropriate information to the utilization system to change their attitudes so that adoption of technology enhanced.
