Hormonal Control of Lactation

a) Milk secretion : Synthesis of milk takes place by epithelial cells and passes the milk from cytoplasm into alveolar lumen.

b) Milk removal: Passive withdrawl of milk from cisterns and sinuses.

c) Lactation : Combined process of secretion and removal of milk.

Note: a) Lactogenesis: Initiation of milk secretion.

b) Mammogenesis : Development of mammary gland.
