Cleaning in Place (CIP Method of cleaning)

  • It refers to the system of cleaning and sanitization which does not require daily displacement of dairy equipment and machines.
  • In this method detergents solution is kept in a balance tank and pumped and again turned to the balance tank.

 

Advantage of CIP:

  1. Better and contact cleaning.
  2. Elimination of failure due to the human factor especially when unskilled person and employed.
  3. Elimination of recontamination.
  4. Reduction in labor cost, detergents, steam etc.

 

Types of CIP:

There are two system of CIP

  1. Throw away methods:
  • Simple, recommended for cleaning of storage tank and pipeline system.
  • It consists of centrifugal pump, heat exchanger plate, automatic temperature regulator and tank of NAOH 30% and nitric acid 72%5 and total cleaning time is 7.5 minutes.

 

 

 

  1. Regeneration methods:
  • In this method detergents are kept in container and pumped from there through the plate heat exchanger equipment’s to be cleaned.
  • Detergents are returned from regeneration section of pasteurizer to the storage tank.
  • It is automatic type, more expensive, so used only in big plate in milk plate.
