- Surgical method :
a) By using Burdizzo :
- The spermatic cords with the blood vessels are crushed result to gradual atropy of the testicles.
- One spermatic cord clipped at a time.
Steps :
- The spermatic cord can be prepared after one month or older.
- Find out spermatic cord on one side of scrotum, spermatic cord runs from body into testicles and moves easily from side to side in its half of scrotum.
- Pinch the cord to outside edge of scrotum .Put between your thumb and fore finger.
- Place the one jaw of burdizzo on front side of scrotum.
- Crush the cord and wait for the second repeated crushed 1 cm below first side.
- Repeat the procedure on opposite side of the scrotum.
- Side of crushed should be 1-2 cm above top of testicles.
- Apply antiseptic solution to prevent infection.
Advantages :
- Bloodless
- Less chance of infection
- Quick and easy method.
Disadvantages :
- Chance of injury to animal and operator.
- Incomplete crush lead to testicles development.
b) Elastator :
- A rubber ring is placed around scrotum with a testicle below ring.
- Scrotum fall off within few weeks.
- Elastic rubber ring prevent blood transfer to testicles , result to atropy of testicles.
Advantages :
- Blood less
- Quick and easy.
- No risk of maggot infestation.
Disadvantages”
- Rubber may be brittle before scrotal atropy.
- Chance of tetanus.
- Pain and discomfort to animal.
c) Chemical or hormonal method :
- Immunization against sex hormone such as LHRH , LH , FSH.
Advantage :
- painless
- No risk of blood loss
- May be reversible if required.
Disadvantages :
- Not effective as Burdizzo and surgery.
- Toxic effect on meat and milk production.
- Certain duration effect.
- Surgical method :
- Testicles are removed by operating surgical operations.
- Trained technician is required.
- Post operational care is required.
