Background & Goals of Lassa Fever Outbreak in West Africa
In 2018, West Africa experienced a significant outbreak of Lassa fever, primarily affecting Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. The goal was to assess the epidemiology of the outbreak and its impact on public health systems.
Materials & Methods
The study involved retrospective analysis of reported Lassa fever cases from January 2018 to February 2018. Data on human infections, case fatality rates, and healthcare system responses were collected and analyzed.

A total of 3,498 infections were recorded, resulting in 171 deaths because of Lassa Fever Outbreak in West Africa . Nigeria accounted for over half of the total cases and fatalities. The outbreak strained local healthcare resources and highlighted the need for improved diagnostic and treatment capacities.
