Factors affecting water absorption

  1. Availability of soil water : In the soil , there is different form of water. Among them, only capillary water is easily absorbed by root hair cells . Capillary water increase the rate of absorption but water loading condition harm or decrease the rate of absorption.

  1. Soil temperature: Soil temperature is essential for absorption of water. Absorption is maximum when soil temperature lie in between 20-300C. Soil temperature less tan 40C reduce the absorption of water.

  1. Soil aeration: The presence of air in the soil is called soil aeration. Aerated soil increase the rate of absorption because root hair cells easily get oxygen which is responsible for respiration.

  1. Concentration of minerals : Higher concentration of soluble salts increase the osmotic pressure of soil solution which inhibit the rate of absorption .

  1. Transpiration : The rate of transpiration directly related to the rate of absorption. Higher the rate of transpiration, higher the absorption.
