Factors affecting water absorption
- Availability of soil water : In the soil , there is different form of water. Among them, only capillary water is easily absorbed by root hair cells . Capillary water increase the rate of absorption but water loading condition harm or decrease the rate of absorption.
- Soil temperature: Soil temperature is essential for absorption of water. Absorption is maximum when soil temperature lie in between 20-300C. Soil temperature less tan 40C reduce the absorption of water.
- Soil aeration: The presence of air in the soil is called soil aeration. Aerated soil increase the rate of absorption because root hair cells easily get oxygen which is responsible for respiration.
- Concentration of minerals : Higher concentration of soluble salts increase the osmotic pressure of soil solution which inhibit the rate of absorption .
- Transpiration : The rate of transpiration directly related to the rate of absorption. Higher the rate of transpiration, higher the absorption.
