Essential features of family

• Universality: Family is the most universal group. It has existed in every age and in every society and is found in all parts of world and every era.
• Emotional basis: It is based on individual’s shared feeling with respect to sorrow and joys, parental care etc.
• Limited size: Perhaps the smallest unit in society.
• Nuclear position: It is the nucleus of all other social group. The whole social structure is built of family unit.
• Responsibility of members: In the family the child learns the meaning of social responsibility and the necessity for cooperation.
• Social regulation: The family is peculiarly guided by social customs and legal regulations.
