Organisms contain a variety of hexose derivative
- Here, hydroxyl group in parent compound is replaced with another substitutes.
i.e.
a) Carbon atom — > oxidized—> Carboxylic acid.
b) Glucose —> oxidized —> Glucosamine
c) Galactose –> oxidized—> Galactosamine
d) Mannose —> oxidized—> Mannosamine
But, how?
- Hydroxyl at C-2 is replaced with an amino group.
Note: Glucosamine is the structural polymer of cell wall of bacteria.
