Algae

  • are eukaryotic pigmented microorganism with some exception (sea weeds).
  • Photosynthesis occurs in chloroplasts which contain a variety of chlorophylls & carotenoids. Chl-a (Chlorophyll-a) is present in all algae.
  • Cell wall of algae contains polysaccharides and is made up of pectin, cellulose or Xylan and sometimes calcified with CaCO3.
  • Cell wall of some red algae contain agar.
