Obligations of International treaty on Plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (ITPGRFA)

As per the article 5.1, it includes:

a) Survey and inventory PGRFA

b) Collect PGRFA

c) Promote farmer management of PGRFA

d) Facilitate in situ conservation of PGRFA

e) Finance the ex-situ collection, preservation and maintenance of PGRFA

f) Monitor the status of PGRFA

As per the article 6.2, it includes:

a) Sustaining beneficial farming systems

b) Maximizing intra and inter-specific variations of plant varieties

c) Promoting plant breeding efforts with farmers

d) Broadening the variety of genetic material available to farmers

e) Promoting locally adapted varieties

f) Promoting crop diversity, sustainable use and conservation as well as developing links between farmers and plant breeders.

g) Reviewing and adjusting breeding strategies and regulations.
