Biosynthesis of Starch

  • It occurs in chloroplast.
  • The activated nucleotide sugar is formed by condensation of glucose-1-phosphate with ATP, CTP and GTP.
  • Starch synthetase then transfer glucose residue to non-reducing end of existing starch molecule.
  • Reaction involves displacement of ADP forming characteristics linkage of starch.
