Master General Biochemistry – Notes, Case Studies & Practical Insights – with Rahul

Introduction

  • Enzyme are biomolecule either protein or RNA that catalyze a specific chemical reaction.
  • Don’t affect the equilibrium of reaction but enhance the rate of reaction by providing a reaction path with lower activation energy.

Terminologies

  1. Apoenzyme : Protein part of enzyme
  2. Cofactor: Organic or inorganic molecule that apoenzyme requires for the activity.
  3. Prosthetic group: Similar to cofactor and is tightly bound to an apoenzyme.
  4. Isoenzyme : Enzyme that catalyze the same type
