Introduction

• Compounds in living organism are divided into two main groups:

a) Primary metabolites b) Secondary metabolites

A) Primary metabolites:

• Produced in glycolysis and Kreb’s cycle
• Involved in respiration and photosynthesis

B) Secondary metabolites:

• Important intermediate in the formation of primary metabolite such as phenylalanine, tyrosine, tryptophan and steroid respectively.
