Principle of electrophoresis

  • Electrophoresis is the movement of charged particles in an electric field.
  • Protein carry both +ve and -ve charges depending on the medium i.e. acidic or basic.
  • At iso-electric point, when the protein bears both +ve and -ve charges, it behave as neutral.
  • pH> Isoelectric point, protein carry -ve charge and moves towards anode.
  • The molecular mass of protein is determined from its mobility.
