Care of poultry excreta
- When birds are housed in deep litter, it should always be kept dry. A conditioned or built-up litter contains about 25 percent moisture. The correct litter condition can be easily determined by taking a handful of litter and squeezing it lightly and then releasing it.
- The litter should neither from a cohesive ball nor should it fall apart. For maintenance of litter quality it should be stirred at least one in a week. Wet litter, if any, should be replaced immediately with dry rice husk, grass cutting, bagasse, wooden dust etc. wet litter is released with the problem of coccidiosis as high moisture leads to sporulation.
- When droppings are collected from buttery type of brooders of laying cages should exposed to spraying of disinfectants like Malathion, Sumithion or Baygon etc. flies mosquitoes and other insects proliferate during rainy season. Regular spraying of such disinfectant around the sheds will keep the disease level to minimum
