Effect of summer heat on chicken

• Poor feed conversion and growth
• Egg size diminishes significantly
• Increase in cracked egg and poor shell quality
• Drop in egg production
• Very fast breathing along with high pulse rate and metabolic counts
• Body temperature is raised and birds try to regulate in absence of sweat glands, by evaporation of moisture from lungs
• Reduced resistance to diseases
• Prostration due to heat stroke and possible mortality resulting from this.
