Methods of drying off of cows

• Cessation
• Intermittent milking
• Incomplete milking

1. If cow is giving 4 to 5 kg milk/day and is free of mastitis, complete cessation may be followed and no harm will result.
2. The milk will be filled in udder and then gradually reabsorbed.
3. Cows giving higher yields above 5kg milk/day will also require reduction or change in feed quality and water to assist the method of drying off a cow by intermittent or incomplete milking
