Gum-Boro disease (Infectious brusal disease)

  • Gum-boro disease is an acute, highly contagious viral infection of young chicks. This disease of poultry is an immunosuppressive disease.
  • Etiology: virus of bimavividae family 3-6 weeks old chicks is mostly affected.
  • Incubation period is 2 to 3 days.
  • Morbidity rate is 100 per cent. Mortality rate is between 20 to 30 percent

Symptoms 

  • Ruffled feather, anorexia (means lack or loss of appetite for food) , depression, tendency of some birds to pick their vent.
  • White watery diarrhoea with soiled vent
  • Dehydration sub-normal temperature, trembling (act of shaking), severe prostration (great depression and finally death

 

Prevention and control

  • Vaccination at an early age; done at the age of one to 21 days chickens repeated after 2 months and after 4 to 6 months.
