Seed blending

  • Process of mixing two or more dissimilar seed lots producing overall uniformity in the final seed lot.
  • The Pearson square method is adopted for finding out the proportions of  different seed lots.
  • There are two types of equipment used for blending of different seed lots.

a. Batch blending equipment

  • When small quantities of seeds are to be mixed into different batches, the three types of blenders; Rotary drum blender, Conical mixtures and Vertical spiral blenders are used.

 

b. Continuous blending equipment

  • When huge quantities of seeds are to be mixed into different batches four types of equipment; Continuous centrifugal blender, Horizontal blender, Bin-feeding devices and Multiple bin arrangements.
