About Lesson
Methods of studying renal function:
- Renal function indicates the working capability and condition of kidney
- Helps in diagnosis of any renal diseases
- Urine, serum, is needed for test.
Different methods of renal function test
- BUN
- Creatinine clearance
- Urine analysis
- GFR
- Protein in urine , etc
GFR method:
- Stands for glomerular filtration rate
- Amount of urine filtered by glomerulus of bowmen’s capsule per time
- When GFR= clearance rate, following formula is used:
GFR= (urine concentration *urine flow) / (plasma concentration)
Creatinine clearance method:
- Test which show rate of clearance of creatinine from the blood by kidney.
- Help in approximating GFR
Mathematically,
Ccr=(creatinine concentration * urine flow)/(plasma concentration)
