Pancreatic Juice:

Composition:

  • enzymes(Trypsinogen, chymotrypsinogen, carboxypeptidase, trypsin, amylase, lipase)
  • Alkaline fluid

Function

  • Breakdown of carbohydrate, protein, fat; thus help in digestive function
  • It is alkaline in nature thus neutralize HCl from chyme entering the duodenum.
  • It releases insulin and glucagon. Excess glucose is converted into glycerol.

Regulation

  • Pancreatic juice is produced in pancreas.
  • Acinar cell of pancreas synthesize and secrets fluids into duct.
  • This fluid gets modified and drop in duodenum.
  • When acidic chyme is entered into duodenum, that fluid get stimulated. That fluid is hormone i.e. secretin and cholecystokinin.
  • This pancreatic juice is alkaline in nature as it contains bicarbonate.
  • Pancreatic enzymes are originated from acinal cells and bicarbonate from duct cells.
  • bicarbonate: neutralize the acidic chyme
  • Enzyme: Breakdown carbohydrate, protein, fat.
