Charles Horton Cooley
- Cooley’s concept of self-development has been termed as “Looking –glass self”. This concept emphasizes that children develop an image of only by finding out what other people think of them by using other persons as a mirror to discover what they are like.
- In this way socialization process helps an individual to develop a self-image a sense of what kind of person he or she is.
There are three principal elements of the “Looking-glass self “concept. They are:
- Our perception of how we look to others
- Our perception of their judgements of how we look and
- Our feelings about these judgements
